• Long Half-Life: Features an exceptionally long terminal elimination half-life (approx. 24 hours), allowing for effective 24-hour blood pressure control with a single daily dose.

• Selective Receptor Binding: High affinity for the AT-1 receptor with no affinity for the AT-2 receptor, ensuring targeted cardiovascular action.

• Cardiovascular Risk Reduction: Indicated for the reduction of the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, or death from cardiovascular causes in patients 55 years of age or older at high risk.

• No Cough Side Effect: Unlike ACE inhibitors, Telmisartan does not inhibit ACE (kininase II) and does not lead to the accumulation of bradykinin, significantly reducing the incidence of dry cough.

• Moisture-Protected Packaging: Often provided in high-barrier packaging to protect the hygroscopic nature of the tablets.

Clinical Applications

⚠️ Usage Note: Telmisartan should be taken once daily. It can be administered with or without food.

⚠️ Black Box Warning: Drugs that act directly on the renin-angiotensin system can cause injury and death to the developing fetus. Discontinue as soon as pregnancy is detected.

⚠️ Safety: Monitor serum potassium levels regularly, especially in elderly patients or those with renal impairment, as ARBs can cause hyperkalemia.
