Celestone® Soluspan® 6 mg/mL (Betamethasone) Injectable Suspension, 5 mL

5 mL Vial (EA/1)

Organon’s Celestone® Soluspan® (Product #78206011801) is a specialized injectable corticosteroid that provides a unique dual-action delivery system. It contains both a highly soluble ester (betamethasone sodium phosphate) for immediate anti-inflammatory onset and a slightly soluble ester (betamethasone acetate) for sustained activity. This combination is widely used for the short-term management of acute and chronic conditions that respond to steroid therapy, such as severe allergies, rheumatoid arthritis, and various dermatologic disorders.

Key Features

  • Dual-Release Technology: Provides “prompt and prolonged” activity. The sodium phosphate starts working quickly, while the acetate provides a reservoir for continued relief.

  • Versatile Administration: Indicated for Intramuscular (IM), Intra-articular (joint), Intralesional (skin), and soft tissue injection.

  • Powerful Anti-Inflammatory: A derivative of prednisolone, betamethasone offers potent activity with reduced mineralocorticoid (salt-retaining) effects.

  • Ready-to-Use Suspension: Supplied as a sterile aqueous suspension; requires thorough shaking before administration to ensure uniform dosage.

Clinical Applications

  • Rheumatic Disorders: Adjunctive therapy for acute gouty arthritis, bursitis, and tenosynovitis.

  • Allergic States: Management of severe asthma, contact dermatitis, and drug hypersensitivity.

  • Dermatologic Diseases: Treatment of keloids, psoriatic plaques, and alopecia areata.

  • Endocrine Disorders: Primary or secondary adrenocortical insufficiency (when used with mineralocorticoids).

⚠️ Black Box & Safety Warnings: Do not administer intravenously. Serious neurological events, some resulting in death, have been reported with epidural injection.

⚠️ Usage Note: Shake well before using. The suspension must be uniform to ensure the patient receives the correct ratio of fast-acting to long-acting esters.

⚠️ Contraindications: Contraindicated in systemic fungal infections and patients with known hypersensitivity to betamethasone or other corticosteroids.
