Key Features & Clinical Applications
-
Pharmacy Admixture Design: Features a 100 mL fill in a 150 mL capacity PAB® container, leaving 50 mL of dead-space head room for convenient, sterile additive admixture (e.g., concentrated electrolytes, antiemetics, antibiotics) without overflowing.
-
Biocompatible Eco-Friendly Materials: Formulated without PVC, DEHP, or natural rubber latex. Prevents leaching of plasticizers and avoids chemical sorption of lipophilic drug molecules into the container walls.
-
Caloric & Hydration Support: Provides an immediate source of bioavailable calories (170 kcal/L) and free water to restore tissue hydration and combat carbohydrate deficiency.
-
Dual Port Integrity: Equipped with a self-sealing medication injection port and a separate sterile administration set port for reliable aseptic processing.
⚠️ Hyperglycemia & Fluid Overload Warning: Administer with caution in patients with overt or subclinical diabetes mellitus. Rapid IV administration of dextrose solutions can induce severe hyperglycemia, hyperosmolar syndrome, hypervolemia, or electrolyte disturbances (e.g., hypokalemia, hyponatremia).
⚠️ Corn Allergy Contraindication: Solutions containing dextrose are contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergies to corn or corn products.
⚠️ Admixture Compatibility Check: Always consult compatibility references prior to adding drugs to 5% Dextrose Injection. Do not administer simultaneously with blood products through the same infusion set due to pseudoagglutination risk.
